I'm a marketing major and as much as I look forward to the future, I will always love my humanities classes the best.
Unless you're a writing major this sounds dumb and unnecessary.
How do you write that much about a topic and not run out of ideas?
Honestly it was science classes that usually had the longest papers (if you consider lab reports papers). I had about 1-2 pages of writing due every class, half a page of in class writing per day, had two essays that were 4-7 pages long (Granted, it was double spaced), and had a portfolio that included changing 50% of my first two papers and writing a third three page paper. This is the last chance you have to put something on your resume that says "i'm worth something". You won't be able to if you get a shitty job because your GPA was a point less than it could of been if you applied yourself.
They'd routinely run around 12 pages, and the longer ones would approach 20 pages. It really depends on your major, but yes, you'll probably take a few classes that require lengthy essays.
Keep in mind these are typically the last paper you write in college, normally papers are about 3-7 pages dependent on formatting.
I had a paper for my English class that had to be 11-15 pages, IIRC.
If you write that much there's probably some research going with it that you personally did. Once I throw in citations and information from my research, papers usually end up longer than I planned. Just don't procrastinate until the very last minute on a research paper (essays are another story). I know someone whose dissertation was 130 (double-spaced) pages of only mathematics.
Also, my physics papers were usually a lot less pages, but 8pt double column, single spaced, and that's more frustrating because you never move onto the next page..."Writing Major" Haha. Yes, its a shit load of work, but college is your now. Don't you want to retire when you are 55 and take a month of vacation every year?
And we had to do one EVERY WEEK for each class with a lab (I had to do 3 a week one semester). I was a business major in college, but I took an elective history class that required several essays on different research topics.
They were maybe 10-12 pages, double spaced, and it wasn't at all difficult to reach that length.
